What makes your journey at Broussa a special one?
Our Ofsted Outstanding setting adopts a child-centered approach, prioritizing children’s voices and choices in every aspect while maintaining their best interests at the core. Children can select their own key person and
decide on the equipment they wish to use, making their input crucial to our success. Each key person is accountable for the individual education and development of their assigned child. Our play-based curriculum
emphasizes children's wellbeing and fosters unique adult interactions, resulting in confident, curious, and resilient children.
We emphasize responsive relationships between adults and children, with each adult addressing children's needs personally, providing a tailored experience for every child and their family. Adults utilize children’s interests
and developmental needs, combined with their professional insights and parental feedback, to craft individualized curricula that continually advance children to the next learning stage. We set high yet achievable
expectations for all children by balancing child-initiated and adult-led learning opportunities, ensuring our ethos of learning through play remains central. Our skilled practitioners observe children in real-time, seizing
learning moments when curiosity arises and fostering sustained shared thinking through nurturing interactions.
High levels of engagement and wellbeing are indicators that a child is ready to learn, an outcome we actively promote through our two accredited Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) who collaborate with our
dedicated team. We believe that an adult’s role is to help children achieve optimal wellbeing and involvement, enabling their development and learning. Calm, nurturing environments with spacious areas, abundant natural
light, and secure relationships facilitate this goal.
Through collaborative inquiry and critical reflection, we work as a team to enhance our learning environments, ensuring we create awe and wonder—both vital for children’s learning and wellbeing. Our goal is to
continuously provide inspiring interactions and environments tailored to the needs of our current cohort. As a highly trained, experienced, and educated team, we engage in daily self-reflection to improve our setting. Each
month, our rooms collaborate as a team to assess their impact on each child and explore further enhancements.
We have a profound passion for outdoor learning and community engagement, consistently developing our outdoor environment and strengthening connections with our local community. Research shows the outdoors
significantly benefits children’s mental health and physical development, and we make the most of our three main learning areas: indoors, outdoors, and the community.
The manager continually encourages the team to strive for excellence, with many staff members pursuing qualifications such as Level 3 apprenticeships, Level 5 Lead practitioners, and Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS).
She is also undertaking NPQEYL to enhance her skills and knowledge for the benefit of the team. With three qualified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinators (SENDCOs), we ensure early intervention
and support for staff, children, and families. Our two accredited ELSAs maintain an environment where wellbeing is paramount. We have received numerous accreditations that motivate and refocus the entire team. The
Noodle Now online training portal offers over 80 courses for staff to access at their convenience. Training is allocated during supervisions and annual reviews based on observations and reflections, while in-house training
sessions for safeguarding and behavior foster shared knowledge and expertise across the leadership team.
Low staff turnover reflects our positive environment and culture, characterized by communication, respect, and CPD. We have an incredibly dedicated and passionate team, each member bringing unique strengths and
experiences that complement one another. The leadership team serves as excellent role models, fostering a shared ethos of knowledge and expertise.
Over the past few years, we have established strong community links and earned respect within our community. We shop locally for nursery food to support small businesses and maintain strong ties with our local church,
library, and Hale Civic Society. Regular visits to local residential homes foster intergenerational links, and we have developed relationships with the local police, fire brigade, bakers, and dentists.
